There is a compulsory pension scheme in Taiwan. Employers must contribute at least 6% of the employee’s monthly salary to the new pension scheme. Employee contributions are voluntary.
The pension is paid to a government account under the Labor Bureau, so employees keep accumulating a pension even if they change employers.
The pension scheme applies to Taiwanese citizens, foreign spouses of Taiwanese nationals, and APRC holders.
Disability Pension is a benefit available to employees who have suffered a permanent disability and are considered permanently unable to work.
The amount payable is calculated based on the years of coverage with a minimum amount payable of NT$ 4,000.
Unemployment insurance is paid by the government at 60% of an employee’s average insured monthly salary in the six-month period before the end of their employment. It is paid for a maximum of six months.
