The normal working hours for most employees in Romania are 40 hours per week and eight hours per day. Legally, employers must pay overtime for hours worked beyond 48 hours per week. This can be given either as time off, or paid at a rate of at least 175% of normal pay.

Employers in Romania are legally required to provide their workers with at least 20 days of vacation leave annually. They can also take special leave for certain events such as marriage.
Workers in Romania are legally entitled to take up to five days of paid sick leave (at 75% pay), which is covered by their employer. Workers can take a maximum of 18 months in some cases, but the government covers compensation beyond the initial five days.
Female employees can take a minimum of 126 days of paid parental leave (at 85% of average pay over the preceding six months), which is covered by the government.
Male employees are entitled to take five days of leave in the first eight weeks after their child’s birth. If they take certain childcare training courses, then this leave can rise to 15 days.
Employees must have contributed to Romania’s social insurance system for at least six of the previous 12 months in order to qualify for the compensation.

When terminating employees in Romania, employers must give at least 20 working days of notice. This period does not apply to employees who are in a probation period, or who have been dismissed with proper cause.
