Annual leave in Mexico (holiday / vacation)

Employees in Mexico get six paid vacation days after a year with the company. Paid vacation days increase by two days each year. After five years, when vacation reaches 14 days, each five subsequent years the employee will get two additional years. 

There are seven to eight national paid holidays in Mexico. They are as follows;

  • Constitution Day (February 1)
    • Benito Juarez Day (March 15)

  • Independence Day (September 16)
  • Revolution Day (third Monday in November)

Pregnant employees in Mexico get paid maternity leave for 42 days before and after birth. If the child has a disability or requires extra care, then the paid leave can be extended by two weeks.

Sick leave in Mexico

Employees are entitled to sick leave that is paid for by the social security systems. Sick leave is paid at 60% of an employee’s regular wage from the fourth day of illness, up to 52 weeks

The standard amount of paid time off (PTO) in Mexico starts at six days a year for new employees and it increases by two days each year the employee is with the company.

Sick leave in Mexico is administered by social security authorities. After four days of being out of work, the sick leave social security will kick in and give the employee 60% pay for up to 52 weeks. This is not paid by the employer, but by the social security fund.
