Annual leave in Indonesia (holiday / vacation)

Employees in Indonesia are entitled to a minimum of 12 days’ paid annual leave (after one full year of employment). After six years of service, employees are entitled to one month of paid annual leave in their seventh and eighth years.

Parental leave in Indonesia

Maternity leave in Indonesia

Mothers in Indonesia are entitled to 1.5 months of maternity leave at full pay before birth and 1.5 months after the birth.

Mothers in Indonesia are also entitled to annual ‘parental paid leave’ for events such as marriage, circumcision, baptism, or death of a child for a total of two days per year

Additionally, women in Indonesia are entitled to ‘menstrual paid leave’ on the first and second days of menstruation each month if they are ill and unable to perform their work.

Fathers in Indonesia are entitled to paid paternity leave of two days.

Fathers in Indonesia are also entitled to annual ‘parental paid leave’ for events such as marriage, circumcision, baptism, or death of a child for a total of two days per year.

Sick leave in Indonesia

Upon submission of a doctor’s note, employees in Indonesia are entitled to paid sick leave, with the compensation reducing over time as follows:

  • 0 to 4 months → 100% salary paid by employer
  • 4 to 8 months → 75% salary paid by employer
  • 8 to 12 months → 50% salary paid by employer
  • 12 months until termination → 25% salary paid by employer

Bereavement and compassionate leave in Indonesia

Employees in Indonesia can take at least two days of paid leave for the death of a spouse and at least one day for the death of other close family members (such as a parent or child).

Other types of leave

Maternity paid leave → 1.5 month before + 1.5 month after childbirth

Paternity paid leave → 2 days

Parental paid leave (marriage, circumcision, baptism, death) → 2 days/year

Menstrual paid leave → 1st and 2nd days of menstruation, if they are ill and unable to perform their work

For sick leave in Indonesia, the common practice follows: 

  • For the first 4 months of sick leave, 100% of the salary is paid by the employer
  • For the 4th to 8th months of sick leave, 75% of the salary is paid by the employer
  • For the 8th to 12th months of sick leave, 50% of the salary is paid by the employer. 
  • After 12 months of sick leave until termination of the employee, 25% of the salary is paid by the employer

Please note the following points:

  • After 12 months of sick leave taken by the employee, termination is authorized
