In Germany, employees get paid holiday and annual leave. There are 9 public paid holidays in Germany, with additional state holidays depending on which state the employee is in.
Annual leave is a minimum of 20 days. However standard is between 24-32 days if you are looking to build a package that attracts higher skilled employees.
Both mothers and fathers can get paid parental leave (Elterngeld and Elternzeit) in Germany, with a period of payment of 12 months (for one parent) and 14 months (in total for both parents).
Mothers are entitled to an extra two years of unpaid leave.
Mothers are entitled to six weeks of leave full pay before a birth, and eight weeks following the birth. In the case of multiple births, the post-birth leave is extended to 12 weeks.
Fathers are entitled to the same paid leave as mothers in Germany.
In Germany the employee continue to receive their standard salary during periods of sick leave. During a period of extended sickness, the employer must pay the salary for up to 6 weeks. After the 6 weeks, the employee’s health insurance provider pays the employee a sickness allowance and the employer will no longer need to pay.
In Germany, employers are entitled to two days of bereavement leave for the death of immediate relatives.
